Reading-n-Writing, Oh My!

We're nearing the end of our Charlotte's Web novel study and I finally completed our hallway bulletin board displaying the projects we created during it...

An important theme of Charlotte's Web is friendship, which we explored by writing "Friend" acrostic poems, shown on the right side of the board. The bottom of the board displays state fair brochures we designed. My favorite part of the board is the right side, titled "Word Weavers".  I made a giant spiderweb out of yarn. The spiders were made using oaktag and student photos. I hotglued tiny bows to the girl spiders. Students decorated index cards with words to describe themselves, which their spiders are holding. Here's an up close look...

Our families and friends had the opportunity to read our writing at the school Literature Fair. Our class theme was "Holiday Traditions". We spent about 4 weeks drafting, editing, writing, and decorating our personal narrative books. At the fair, students enjoyed reading a variety of genres, writing book reviews, munching on popcorn from a popcorn machine, and winning books at the end of the night...

We're also nearing the end of our biography writing unit. Some of the biographies we wrote were about Theodor Giesel aka Dr. Seuss...

 and Rosa Parks...

Our biography unit will end on Tuesday with our Biography Publishing Party where students will dress as their characters and read their reports to classmates and families.

 Happy learning!
