Name That Place

The Third Grade Learning Spot spent the past few weeks taking virtual field trips around the world during our school "Name That Place" program. Places we've learned about include Great Britain, France, Germany, Greece, and Italy. This week we explored our own U.S.A. After watching a video about famous landmarks students worked collaboratively to create models of the landmarks and place them on a giant U.S map. Our class created the Grand Canyon using clay for the canyon and tissue paper for the river...
Here's models of Mount Rushmore in North Dakota...
Willis Tower in Illinois and Gateway Arch in Missouri...
and the Golden Gate Bridge in California...

In math the class has been continuing to practice solving division problems that contain remainders. One way was partners worked together to solve a problem using multiplication and division strategies, then taught the class how they solved their problem  on the Smartboard...

In language arts we've begun our unit on pronouns. First, we created an anchor chart defining what a pronoun is and gave examples of singular and plural ones...
We then played "Pronoun Pockets". Each student identified the noun in a sentence and which pronoun to use to replace the noun, then placed the sentence card in that pronoun pocket...
       Happy learning!
