Holiday Happenings

Third grade did a gobbling good job creating turkey place cards that decorated tables at the school Thanksgiving feast. We enjoyed turkey, chicken, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, salad, and brownies while watching Thanksgiving skits by 2nd and 4th grade.

A special visitor, "Eli the Chanukah Elf",  arrived in our classroom before Chanukah to help us count down to the first night of the Festival of Lights...
Eli left us a note about hidden chocolate gelt, which we found in our recess equipment box...
Each day he's been popping up in a different spot of the classroom with a note for us...
Here he is on a zipline announcing the day of our Thanksgiving feast...
and in a book tent reading...
He really loves the the books about Chanukah we've been reading...
Eli has been joining us for learning activities like studying our times tables...
He also got in some mischief while we were out of the room. One day he erased Ms. Glashow's learning objectives and wrote his own...
When we were at art he raided Ms. Glashow's drawer. It was a sticky situation when he was found trapped in the tape he took with the scissors he swiped still in his hand!
After that we decided he should join us for specials so off to art he went...
He did so well we decided he should join us for recess in the gym and on the playground, where he enjoyed riding a bike just his size and the swing students made for him...

In math, we're currently working on mastering the 8 and 9 times tables using a variety of learning games such as "The Great Eight Race"...
The whole class has now completed level one of our Fluent Flyers Math Facts program and has received multiplication/division flashcards for level 2.

Now that we've completed our Molly's Pilgrim novel study we're identifying story sequence using the stories The Stories that Julian TellsHenry's Freedom's Box, and A Bad Case of Stripes

Finally, our multicultural Heritage Dolls bulletin board looks beautiful in the hallway...

Wishing everyone a happy Chanukah!
