Rockin' Out in Earth Science

Our class has been rockin' out in Earth Science since coming back from winter break. We've been learning about minerals and the three types of rocks: igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary. The Science Spot contains charts to help us identify rocks, books, and a "Rock Museum" containing samples of real rocks and minerals.

Here's an upclose look of the "Rock Museum"...

We also has a tasty time classifying Hershey chocolate bars, Kit Kats, and Snickers as igneous, metamorphic, or igneous rocks! After taking a bite of a sample, student geologists drew it and recorded it's name, properties, and the reason it was a certain type of rock on field note sheets. Here's some shots of our delicious fieldwork...

Above you can see how some students geologists wear gloves so the chocolate melts in their mouths, not their hands.

Educators interested in purchasing this lesson plan can purchase it in my TPT store.

 Happy New Year!
