December Blizzard of Fun

The weather has been incredibly mild for this time of year and there hasn't been a flurry in the sky, but we've still been having a blizzard of fun this month!

Students showed off their snow-tastic writing skills when they created "Trapped in a Snowglobe" narratives and "SNOW" acrostic poems...
Winter was also integrated with math when we made Multiplication Snowman. Students wrote factors of the product on their snowman's hat, then decorated the snowman...
Other engaging ways we practiced multiplication included playing Multiplication Bingo and Multiplication Monster Math...
Now that we completed our energy unit in science we've started studying the surface of the earth, including learning about earthquakes and volcanoes. We read books and watched videos about these natural disasters and labeled the parts of a volcano. An explosion of fun erupted when we made our very own erupting volcano using Diet Coke, Mentos, and a Steve Spangler tube. We learned Mentos candy has pores that cause the Diet Coke to bubble more on its surface, which is called nucleation. The bubbles forced the soda to shoot out of the bottle and WHOOSH...a volcanic experience!

We also celebrated Chanukah, including creating "Spinning With Good Wishes" dreidels for our hallway bulletin board...

For educators interested in this project it's available in my TPT store.
Wishing everyone a happy holiday season and bright
