Snow Day Scoop

In science, we've been continuing to learn the 3 types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. During one hands-on activity students decided which type of rock cookie and candy samples were, recorded their results on field test forms...and ate the samples of course!

In writing, we've been continuing our biography genre. Students made creative mini biography reports for our hallway bulletin board...
Famous people researched included presidents, writers, astronauts, entertainers, and athletes such as Abe Lincoln...
Laura Ingalls Wilder...
and Walt Disney...
Another biography craftivity we did was writing Dr. Seuss biographies on hat patterns. The hats were attached to paper plate cats similar to Dr. Seuss' the Cat in the Hat. These will be displayed during our Read Across America/Dr. Seuss' birthday celebration the week of March 2nd. In the next few weeks we'll be writing biographies about Rosa Parks, Jacques Cousteau, and Amelia Earhart.

In math, we are continuing  to practice division in engaging ways such as playing "Division Dogs". Students matched division problem dogs to their answer bones...
and "Division Ducks" where students choose a duck from the lake and solve the division problem on it...

And finally, a bit of humor for this cold, snowy weekend...

Enjoy tomorrow's snow day & hope to see everyone Tuesday!
