READ ACROSS AMERICA 2016

We had a Seusstastic time celebrating Read Across America along with other schools through the nation!

The festivities started with a visit from the Cat in the Hat (who looked suspiciously like Mr. Golden in my humble opinion) and he served us Dr. Seuss birthday cake...

The school character costume parade included twin Sam-I-Ams...

a tutu cute Thing 1...

Fox in Socks and  Cindy Lou Who...

and a Truffalo Tree...

Teachers got into the Seuss spirit as well...

After the parade and bowtie decorating contest we headed back to class to read aloud Oh, the Places You'll Go, which was followed by a writing extension craftivity. Students wrote about a place they want to go, giving 3 reasons and using transitional words. The writing was glued on to hot air balloon patterns we decorated with markers and glitter pens...

Room decorations also included Dr. Seuss characters and quotes and Dr. Seuss Biography Cats...

Of course our classroom guest of honor was The Cat in the Hat. Here he is hanging out under a truffalo tree...

2nd grade joined us for a viewing of The Lorax and then we shared Dr. Seuss books with book buddies...

Tomorrow, we'll find which Dr. Seuss books came in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in our "Favorite Dr. Seuss Book" schoolwide election.

Finally, one of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes which is in our library center...

  Happy learning!
