January Scoop

This month third graders became geologists studying layers of the earth, rocks, and minerals. A bulletin board display and miniature rock museum provided visual aides and hands on samples to explore...

Student geologists had a yummy time classifying cookies and candy as representing igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic rocks...

In math we began learning about division by meeting "Division Man" who taught us the steps of division...

Students had fun playing "Division Dunk". Each student solved a division problem on a basketball pattern, then "dunked" it into a whiteboard basketball hoop...

Another game we played was "Division Dog". Students had to match division problem dogs to their answer bones...

In reading we've been exploring the theme of friendship during our Charlotte's Web novel study. Some of the activities we've completed in our Charlotte's Web lap books include a "Friendship" web that shows the good traits of a friend, "Barnyard Personalities" that explores the character traits of the main characters, and chapter comprehension questions. Just like Charlotte spins word webs about Wilbur students "spun" a noun or adjective to describe themselves that they attached to a self spider. (Our spiders are wearing masks because we always practice Covid safety!) They also wrote "Friend" acrostic poems to reflect what a friend means to them. Both projects are displayed on our Charlotte's Web hallway bulletin board...

We also created a classroom web with novel vocabulary words on it...and Charlotte is hanging from it of course!

Happy learning and stay warm!
